With the recent referral of NORML magazines to the Censors office by NZ Police, we decided to take a look at what publications are actually deemed ‘objectionable’ (banned) in New Zealand.

The fact that a book might be deemed objectionable does not prevent it being ordered, and probably making it through customs. Also, thanks to the wonder of the internet, many of these books are now available in electronic form, and the authorities who want to protect the timber, alcohol and pharmaceutical industries are powerless to do anything about that.
